  • Connected (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region All Louis Koo (Actor) | Barbie Hsu (Actor) | Benny Chan (Director) | Nick Cheung (Actor)
It's Hong Kong's turn to borrow from Hollywood. Director Benny Chan (Invisible Target) adapts the 2004 Hollywood film Cellular for Asian audiences with Connected, an entertaining and suspenseful thrill ride that proved popular with audiences during its 2008 theatrical release. Hong Kong's Louis Koo (Rob-B-Hood) stars as the everyman hero played in the Hollywood version by Chris Evans, and the filmmakers have added a romantic subplot by casting Taiwan's Barbie Xu (Meteor Garden) in the role originated by the older Kim Basinger. As the film's black-clad villain, Mainland actor Liu Ye (Blood Brothers) exudes over-the-top, entertaining menace. Rounding out the cast are Nick Cheung (Exiled) as a stalwart traffic cop, with Louis Fan (The Moss), Eddie Cheung (Election), TVB actor Wong Cho Lam and model Ankie Beilke in key supporting roles.

All it takes is one phone call to save a life. Kidnapped by a group of threatening men led by a mysterious mastermind (Liu Ye), engineer Grace Wong (Barbie Xu) is locked in a tool shed with a broken analog phone, which she repairs just enough to make an outgoing phone call. She's able to make a connection with a mobile phone belonging to Bob (Louis Koo), a harried debt collector who's hurrying to the airport to see off his estranged son. Bob is skeptical of Grace's plea for help, and a passing traffic cop (Nick Cheung) dismisses the call as a prank. But something in Bob's instincts tells him that she's speaking the truth, and he rushes to find Grace's young daughter, only to witness her being kidnapped by the unknown villains. Soon Bob is embroiled in a pulse-pounding race against all odds, with time running out and his mobile phone's battery running down. Can this irresponsible divorced father with a dead-end future become a hero and save the lives of those who depend on him?

  • Baby and I (DVD) (First Press Edition) (Korea Version) DVD Region 3 Jang Geun Suk | Kim Byul | Moon Mason
Working nonstop on both the small and big screens, Korean heartthrob Jang Geun Suk (The Happy Life, Hong Gil Dong) stars as a problem teenager who becomes the unlikely surrogate father for an abandoned baby in the hit comedy Baby and I. Jang Geun Suk may be Korean Cinema's hottest young actor at the moment, but his infant co-star, Mason Moon, gives him more than a run for his money in the star power department. With an arsenal of adorable expressions and gurgling sounds, little Moon is one irresistibly cute baby who can bring smiles to the steeliest of hearts, and his charming antics alone already make Baby and I an entertaining watch. Add in hilarious voiceover from popular funnyman Park Myung Soo, who narrates the baby's thoughts, and Baby and I shapes up to be a small film with a mighty heart and side-tickling comedy to spare. Based on a Japanese comic book, Baby and I is the first film from Kim Jin Young, who previously produced My Son and Mapado 2.

After getting into one too many fisticuffs, rebellious high school student Jun Su (Jang Geun Suk) is left to fend for himself by his runaway parents who demand that he get his life together. Having the house all to himself is just fine for Jun Su until one day a baby shows up in his shopping cart, along with a note claiming that he's the father! Jun Su has no choice but to take care of the baby, in all its crying, diaper-changing glory. But it's a bit difficult for Jun Su to keep his characteristic cool image when he has to tote a baby around to school and work. And trying to find a nanny who's willing to feed the baby is a whole other adventure...

  • I Just Didn't Do It (DVD) (English Subtitled) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3 Kase Ryo (Actor) | Yakusho Koji (Actor) | Seto Asaka (Actor) | Motai Masako
After a 11-year absence, Shall We Dance? director Suo Masayuki finally returns to Japanese cinemas with his new film I Just Didn't Do It (Soredemo Boku wa Yattenai). Inspired by a real-life case, this movie-with-a-message exposes the inherent flaws and arduous formalities of the Japanese legal system by documenting the extraordinary journey of an average man who just wants to say he's innocent. Japan has a remarkable conviction rate of 99%, a product of the country's tough stance on crime and the court's "presumed guilty until proven innocent" system, which places the responsibility of proving innocence solely on the defendant. Suo Masayaki, who cares very strongly about the issue, spent four years researching and preparing for the film, as apparent in the precise and detailed courtroom scenes which very acutely captures the frustrating inertia of the justice system. Kase Ryo (Letters from Iwo Jima, Nice no Mori) stars as the film's hapless hero, while Yakusho Koji, star of Shall We Dance?, and Seto Asaki (Death Note) portray lawyers who champion his cause.

Kaneko Teppei (Kase Ryo) heads off to a job interview one morning by subway. As he gets off the crowded commuter train, a high school girl accuses him of sexual harassment, and he is apprehended on the spot. At the police station, the police and his court-appointed attorney advise him to just confess, in which case he would be released after settling compensation with the victim. Teppei, however, emphatically denies the charges, refusing to give in when he is innocent. Held in detention, he begins a long and harrowing battle with the grueling court system.
